Colgate Program
From October, 1942, through June, 1943, Al Jolson starred in the Al Jolson Colgate Show, broadcast on Tuesday nights over the CBS Network. There were 39 broadcasts, about 25 minutes each, with only four complete, and one partial, recordings known to exist. The regulars on the show, along with Jolson, were singer Carol Bruce and comedian Harry "Parkyakarkus" Einstein. The earliest show that we have features Monte Wooley as guest star, and the next with Robert Benchley. Wooley returned the next week as guest, with a move to the co-host position with the program of January 26, 1943. In that role, he foreshadowed the interplay between Al Jolson and Oscar Levant, which would become a staple of the "Kraft Music Hall," about four years later. In the partial program from March 30, 1943, Jo Stafford replaced Carol Bruce as vocalist.
