|The Man|Jolson Journey
In 1950, Jolson saw the growing conflict in Korea, and called President Truman asking to be sent overseas to entertain the troops. When told there was no money to send him, he gladly paid his own way to go to Korea to sing for his favorite audience. Who can say if this gesture did not cost him his life, later that year. Of course, this was not his first time before soldiers. Try again.
