Eddie Cantor, on the other hand, was riding high, with a hit radio show broacast weekly on NBC, sponsored by Bristol-Myers. Having just lost their star Fred Allen to the CBS Texaco Star Theater, Bristol-Myers had brought Eddie Cantor, who had lost his Camel program two years previously for speaking his mind, to star on their new program. With two products to push, Ipana Toothpaste and Sal Hepatica laxative, Eddie Cantor was re-established as one of radio's biggest stars, and Bristol-Myers remains vibrant through the present, now as Bristol-Myers-Squibb pharmaceutical company; though those original products are long gone.
So, to commemorate Eddie and Ida Cantor's 27th wedding anniversary, Eddie Cantor's old friend Al Jolson joined him on this broadcast. He came onto the program right at the beginning, and never really left. The two old friends chatted and reminisced, discussing age, success, and women.
After Jolson and Cantor, or Cantor and Jolson, have their first turn, Cantor discovery Dinah Shore stepped up for a musical number, "Walkin' By The River." Following this, Harry Von Zell took the time to tell us about the virtues of Ipana Toothpaste.
The comedy sketch of the night centered around a fanciful look at Cantor and Jolson as children, and Cantor's courtship of Ida, so many years ago. The story gets right up the the crucial moment, when Harry Von Zell arrived with a word about Sal Hepatica. Then came the Cantor daughters.
An excerpt of Jolson singing "Old Folks At Home" brings Al back onto the show, with another routine with Eddie Cantor. The routine was capped by Eddie Cantor's love song to his wife, "Ida! Sweet As Apple Cider," sung by Al Jolson!
At the end of the show, Eddie Cantor thanked Al Jolson for donating his salary for the evening to the charity "Bundles for Britain," which was dedicated to providing civilian relief to the war-ravaged British Isles. Old friend Bert Gordon, in his Mad Russian character, makes an apparance at the tag, providing the last word for the show.

| This is an excerpt of the 04 Jun 1941 Eddie Cantor Program with guest star Al Jolson, illustrated with images of the stars augmented a bit for this program. Jolie did not sing a lot of songs during this great show, but this tribute to Eddie Cantor's wife is a singular gem. |
