Al Jolson's experience with radio began in the dawn of the medium, and continued until the birth of television, and his death. He started the Kraft Music Hall, along with programs for Lifebuoy Soap, Colgate Tooth Powder, and Chevrolet, and died while waiting to go on to Bing Crosby's Chesterfield program. Here is another full length radio program for your enjoyment.

Radio Spot - 1935

In 1935, the only film starring Mr. and Mrs. Al Jolson, Go Into Your Dance, hit the screen. Just as today, the media blitz was on, and this week you can enjoy a radio infomercial promoting the film.

Enjoy several song clips from the movie, along with some promotional insight. Of course, it is impossible to summarize all there is in a film in ten minutes, but announcer Don Allen does a fair job of giving the flavor of this film.

After announcing the "Direct from Hollywood" program, and a brief cast list for the movie, Al Jolson is heard singing "Go Into Your Dance."

After sketching the plot of the movie, Ruby Keeler is heard singing "Have A Good Old Fashioned Cocktail With A Good Old Fashioned Gal."

Opening at the Casino de Paris comes next, with Jolson singing "Casino de Paris," and a bit of patter from the show.

Helen Morgan's part is included in the outline, with her role only being described. Jolson's "Mammy, I'll Sing About You" makes a great contribution to the broadcast, though.

To wrap up the broadcast, "About A Quarter To Nine" is played, with the Jolsons and chorus. All in all, this is a great little promo for the movie, and an enjoyable radio piece as well.
